2005 (May) Site Visit: Poling Aquaculture Farm

On Friday, May 20th Great Bay sponsored a site visit and luncheon at the beautiful Poling Aquaculture Farm in Hillsborough, NH. Melvin Murrel is Executive Director of Poling Aquaculture, which is a member of the New Hampshire Aquaculture Association.

Great Bay staff, grantees, and other guests (donned in black fly combat gear) toured Poling Aquaculture’s four ponds, learned how the habitat is prepared, how the fish species are selected, and other basic hydroponics.


In addition we learned how the sometimes infamous beaver can be a help rather than a hindrance - especially when it comes to engineering ponds. The highlight of the day was one of Melvin’s famous fish fries. Melvin won 3rd place honors in the national fish fry competition!
